Part 2: Origin and Form of the Institute

The Institute of the Incarnate Word is a Religious Institute of Diocesan Right, founded by Rev. Carlos Miguel Buela in 1984, with authorization and under the authority of the Bishop of San Rafael (Mendoza, Argentina), Most Rev. Leon Kruk.

The Institute began as a Public Association of Faithful, with the aim of becoming a Religious Institute of Diocesan Right, and eventually a Clerical Religious Institute of Pontifical Right, in accordance with its charism, mission and development. Therefore, from its inception and with Bishop Kruk’s authorization, the Institute has made an experiment of communal religious life, with the profession of the vows of chastity, poverty, obedience and Marian slavery.

The Institute is composed of priests, seminarians and coadjutor brothers. It has two branches: active and contemplative. Being a clerical institute, the Institute of the Incarnate Word is made up mostly of priests.

In addition, it has a Third Order. It is associated (in a spiritual brotherhood) with the Institute of the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matara. They share the same Founder and twin Constitutions.
